When you find bugs or small rodents in your home, it's important to have them identified. While a few spiders isn't going to wreak havoc with your home, an infestation of tiny mice can make your house a mess. While you can try to set up ant traps and use an ultrasonic mouse repeller, further signs that you have an infestation mean that it's time to call your pest control company. Left alone, unwanted pests can destroy the structural integrity of your home, cause health hazards, and make living in your home uncomfortable. While you may be worried about treating your home with chemicals to get rid of pests, you need to focus on solving the problem.

When Termites Have Taken Over

Termites eat wood. Termites can destroy any wooden structures in your home, including weight bearing walls. Termites look similar to ants, but the damage they do is different. If you see trails of sawdust or protective mud tubes, you need to get your home inspected for termites. When you ignore a termite infestation, it's only going to get worse and cause all kinds of problems with the wood in your home. Termites should be removed by a professional who will locate the source and make sure the infestation is gone.

When You Have Mouse Infestation Problems

If you smell the distinct smell of a dead mouse in your house, this could be a one time problem. When you begin to notice the smell more frequently or there are other signs of mouse problems, it's time to assess the situation. Mice only need a space the size of a dime to get into your home, and when the weather gets cold, your house is a warm refuge. Mice can find plenty of places to live in your home, creating nests in walls or dropped ceilings. They need a water source, so mice colonies are often found near pipes or in bathrooms. They are a hazard because of the refuse they leave behind. Mouse droppings and urine can cause health problems and leave your home smelling poorly.

If you find signs that you have a bug or rodent infestation in your home, you can try to solve it on your own. If this doesn't work, it's time to call in a professional. When you leave an insect or rodent problem untreated, it's only going to get worse. Before termites, carpenter ants, or mice destroy your home, get the help you need.
