Decorating your walls may seem like a simple feat; for instance, you may just have a couple pictures that you want to hang and think it should be simple. In some cases you can simply follow your instincts and just hang the picture, but if you want the walls to really pop, it is important to follow some rules when it comes to decorating. Here are some things you need to know.

1. Start With A Focal Piece

It is important to find one place and make it a focal piece. Don't just hang your picture wherever; instead you need to choose one place in the room that you want to draw the eye, and you start there. For instance, if you have a fireplace in the room, this would be a good place to choose as your focal piece. You can place art over the fireplace, and make that one wall look really decorated and fabulous. Then even if it is the only wall in the room with art and decoration, it will look good because it is the focus of the room.

2. Don't Underestimate White Space

When decorating it is important to note that the blank spaces are just as important as the pieces of art themselves. If you put too many things on the wall without using the white space in the back to help accent the pieces, it could become too busy and disastrous. Thus, if you have a large blank wall, don't feel like you have to put a million pictures on it. Instead, choose one focal piece, perhaps a large picture, or a cluster of pictures, and as you place them, make sure you have plenty of plain space behind each picture. This will help to bring the attention to the pictures and not make the wall feel too busy.

3. Start From The Center and Work Your Way Out

If you are putting up multiple pieces of work on a wall you should start in with the centerpiece and work your way out. For example, you might have a cluster of pictures. Decide which one is the most important to you and which one will be the focal and place it first. Then you can start working your way around it. Don't start on the side and move across. This can make your wall look as though it has no center or focus.

By following these tips you can hang your wall art in a way that will make your house look amazing.
