Installing granite countertops in your home is an excellent idea, both in terms of durability, and in terms of beauty. However, just as with any other material, you have to make sure that you take good care of your granite countertops if you want them to continue looking good and functioning properly for you. This article will discuss 2 great tips for cleaning your granite countertops.

Ensure The Granite Is Sealed Before Cleaning

Before you ever begin cleaning your granite countertops, you are going to want to make sure that all of the granite has been properly sealed. The sealant placed on the granite countertops is put in place to protect the actual granite itself, not only from liquids, but also from nicks, chips, dings, etc. A great way to test if your granite countertops are completely sealed is to put water on them. If your granite countertops are properly sealed, then the water is going to bead up in balls on top of them. However, if your granite isn't properly sealed, the water is going to soak into the granite. If you find that this is an issue for you, you need to have your granite countertops properly sealed immediately. If you try and clean them when they aren't sealed, the cleaners that you use are likely going to cause more harm than good to your granite.

Use Microfiber Clothes

The great thing about using microfiber clothes is the fact that they can be used both to dust and to wipe clean your granite countertops. You will start off by using the dry microfiber cloth to dust all of your countertops. The microfiber does an excellent job of picking up the dust on the countertops, helping to leave your surface dust free and ready to be washed clean. This is when you are going to wet your microfiber cloth and begin wet cleaning your countertops. You want to make sure that you wring out your cloth after wetting it, so that it is only slightly damp. The microfiber allows you to scrub off stains and debris, while at the same time leaving your countertops look very clean and streak-free. You can improve the cleaning power of the microfiber cloth by using a gentle cleaner on your countertops along with it. This can be a mild dish soap, or you can use a cleaner specially made to clean granite surfaces.
