Why You Should Repair a Tire Instead of Replacing It

If you have a flat tire or notice that your tire isn't holding air like it used to, you might automatically assume that it's time to buy a new one. However, this is not always the case. Even though you might not be able to have it repaired, such as if it has a hole in the sidewall, you should know that in many cases, you can have a tire plugged or patched. These are a few reasons why you should consider repairing a tire instead of completely replacing it.

Save Money

First of all, you should consider the fact that tires are not cheap, especially if you have a larger vehicle or if you have to purchase specialty tires, such as low-profile tires. In many cases, repairing your tire can be a much more affordable option than completely replacing it, so if you're tight on funds or just don't want to spend more than necessary, you may want to look into having your tire repaired.

Have Tires with Even Wear

Another reason to consider having your tire repaired instead of replacing it is the fact that it can allow you to have tires with even wear and tear. For example, if your other three tires have 75 percent tread and your new tire has 100 percent tread, you have to worry about your tires wearing out at a different rate and about your vehicle potentially driving differently because of it, such as pulling to one side or the other. By having your damaged tire repaired, however, you can keep four tires that are equally worn out and that should need to be replaced at the same time.

Cut Down on Waste

Even though rubber is recyclable, you may be worried about contributing to waste in your local landfills. By saving a tire by having it patched or plugged rather than buying a new one, you can keep it from going in the landfill for just a little bit longer, which can be a more environmentally conscious decision.

As you can see, if you have never thought about having a flat tire repaired and have always just had flat tires replaced, you should know that this is not your only option. Instead, you should consider the perks of repairing a tire rather than replacing it. You can purchase a tire patch kit of your own, but using the services of a tire shop can be a better option for having it reliably repaired.
